Big Rock Brewery has been amazing in their barrel aged beers. So far, four beers have been released and all have pointed in the proper direction of being a great barrel aged beer. The Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Amber is the fifth one and, boy, they sure did think outside of the box! Big Rock’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Amber was brewed with extra hops and then barrel aged for 9 months.
Here’s what Big Rock Brewery had to say about their Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Amber beer:
“A full bodied, medium carbonated beer. Sweet caramel notes with bourbon are present. Tastes of oak and a subtle citrus hop bite.
Beer aged in barrels takes on the rich flavours of the wood, while also adopting the characteristics of the previous tenant.
Single trip Kentucky Bourbon barrels made of oak have been used to cultivate this homegrown dark amber ale. Aged for 9 months, it’s then blended to a dark amber with notes of Bourbon, oak, caramel and subtle citrus from Amarillo hops. Bold but smooth, here’s a ‘gentle giant’ of barrel beers.”
Did Big Rock’s Barrel Aged Dark Amber beer do it’s job of being a great barrel aged beer? Watch the video review below for Dan Crocker’s opinion of this beer.
