Brewers to the rescue! If you’ve visited the grocery store in the past few weeks, then you know just how hard it is to find a roll of toilet paper, let alone hand sanitizer. In the midst of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Canada has been running low on much-needed tools such as n95 masks, toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
Labatt Breweries and their parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev announced in a press release that they will be “joining the national effort to combat the spread of COVID-19” by manufacturing over 50,000 bottles of hand sanitizer that will be distributed to food banks, frontline workers and those in the brewing, bar and restaurant industries, food and grocery delivery service workers and more.
At Labatt, we care about the health and safety of our communities. That’s why we’re mobilizing our breweries to produce and distribute 50,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to support @foodbankscanada, front line workers and partners in the restaurant and bar industry. #COVID19 pic.twitter.com/9BxRbQKIMg

Labatt’s announcement came soon after many Canadian distilleries, primarily in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, were authorized to produce hand sanitizers.
How do you make hand sanitizer?
Many of the breweries will be using the World Health Organization (WHO)’s hand sanitizer recipe. The hand sanitizer solution contains hydrogen peroxide, glycerol and 80 percent ethanol.
Craft Breweries also join the initiative to make hand sanitizers
Local craft breweries and microbreweries are also joining in efforts to combat COVID-19 by promoting social distancing by offering delivery services as well as joining macro breweries in producing hand sanitizers. This has been especially beneficial to local communities where local grocery stores have been extremely low on stock in cleaning products and sanitization tools.
