Renting a keg is the perfect way to amp up any house party, wedding, or special gathering. Kegs can be used at any time of the year, but definitely, have an increase in popularity during the summertime months. If you’re looking to get a keg this summer, or any time of year, here are 18 great places in Calgary, Edmonton and other cities in Alberta to rent a keg.
What is a keg?
A keg is a small, pressurized metal barrel that holds beer. Traditionally made from wood, a beer keg is usually made from stainless steel. It can be used to store or transport beer, but with a valve at one end, it works as a great beer dispenser too.
How much beer is in a keg? How many people will a keg serve?
If you’re wondering how many beers are the keg you just bought, the answer depends entirely on the size of the keg. Kegs can come in a variety of sizes.
A half barrel keg is the most popular size of keg. It has 15.5 gallons of beer in it, which is roughly 165 12oz beers.
A quarter barrel, a.k.a. pony kegs, hold 7.75 gallons of beer. This equals to about 81 12oz beers.
A sixth barrel keg holds 5.15 gallons of beer, which means there are about 56 12oz beers in it.
Cornelius Kegs, a.k.a. a “corny”, are often used by home brewers as they only hold 5 gallons of beer (53 12oz beers).
