In 1516 Bavaria passed a law called the “Rheinheitsgebot” that limited the ingredients that could be used to make beer. To this date, only water, hops, malt and yeast are allowed to be used in the production of beer in Germany and Austria. This pitch-black Hefeweizen breaks all the rules with the inclusion of lactose for creamy sweetness, natural vanilla bean and cocoa nibs for a wild twist. It’s enough to make Otto Von Bismarck weep tears of joy.
