About Fresh-Hopped Red Ale by Gladstone Brewing Company
The American Style Red Ale came into popularity as a spin-off of the American Pale Ale style, with slightly heavier focus on creamy malts over hops, creating a full bodied, yet refreshing ale.
Dark as strong steeped red tea and slightly hazy, aromas of caramel are immediately apparent. Floral and citrus hop characters are strong on the nose thanks to fresh Cascade hops, but flavour wise they are quite understated, working in tandem with the sweet but not overbearing caramel flavour of the malts to create a fine balance. Mouthfeel is creamy but does not linger, making the Gladstone Red Ale refreshing despite its relative lack of bitterness.
