The path to paradise begins with pineapples. For our inaugural release of Beers with Vrienden, a collaborative endeavor with friends and brewers around the country, we invited in the cool, tropical breeze of Miami’s J. Wakefield Brewing to the high country. Together we brewed up this Grilled Pineapple Berlinerweiss modeled after Wakefield’s fruit-spiked Florida Weisses we love so much. Opening with pineapples grilled at the brewery, this sessionable sour wheat bursts forth tropical fruit notes, skips across the tongue with a vibrant sweet-tart bite, and wraps with a juicy, crisp finish. It’s a beery pineapple express, from Colorado to Florida.
Tasting Notes:
Golden yellow in color with a medium sheen, white foam, and light lacing.
Pineapple up front with other tropical and citrus fruits brightened with an acidic background. There is also a light grassy note and some fun funkiness.
Starts very sour that moves into a balanced sweet and sourness, and then ends with a tiny amount of bitterness.
