Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen pours a hazy golden orange color, with a large, fluffy white head. The aroma is slightly sweet and fruity, with the classic banana, citrus and bubble gum ester character of German Hefeweizen yeast, as well as a touch of toasted bread. The banana ester flavors are featured prominently on the palate, along with a mild floral hop character that is quite restrained. The floral hops combine with delicate spicy clove notes to provide a pleasant balance with the sweetness from the fruity yeast character. Despite the impression of sweetness, the beer finishes medium dry, with spritzy carbonation lingering on the palate. GB Hefeweizen is brewed with 65% malted wheat, making it medium bodied, yet light and fluffy on the tongue, almost like the sensation of eating cotton candy. Hefeweizen is very versatile and pairs well with a wide variety of foods. The classic pairing is Bavarian Weisswurst sausage, but you can also enjoy it with brunch dishes like French toast or pancakes, as well as grilled chicken tacos.
