Lady Aberdeen’s Irish Red was inspired by the Aberdeen Hotel which opened in 1894, in the location above the Cask and Kettle. It was named “The Aberdeen Hotel” after the visit of Lady and Lord Aberdeen.
Lady Aberdeen was a true feminist at heart, and throughout her time spent in Canada, in the 1890’s, she carved a strong path for women. She helped create many women’s institution including the Ottawa Council for Women, the Victorian Order of Nurses, and she also served as the President of the International Council of Women.
Lady Aberdeen’s Irish Red is an easy drinking Irish Red Ale brewed as a classic representation of a style found in many local pubs in Ireland. The beer pours dark red in color with a crisp white head that gives off a sweet malt aroma balanced by a soft floral hop aroma from the locally grown Fuggles used in the boil. A medium body and moderate carbonation deliver a beer with a complex biscuity malt flavour, accented by soft toffee and roast notes and a light floral hop flavor. Brewed with a base of imported Simpson’s Maris Otter malt and a small addition of roasted grains, this beer has an all malt complexity that truly showcases the depth of this wonderful malt. The beer has a dry finish characteristic of the style that leaves you ready for another pint every time.
