One Hopfenweizen by Twin Sails Brewing in British Columbia, Canada

About One Hopfenweizen by Twin Sails Brewing

For Twin Sails Brewing’s first birthday they released a beer called one, a Hopfenweizen that comes in at 6.0% alcohol and 12 IBUs. Pouring from the cleanly labelled bomber bottle this beer is very cloudy, golden-straw in colour and has a finger and a half of lacing head. The Aroma is intense with Banana and clove hop esters with a fairly intense tropical fruit tone. The tropical fruit tone has a bit of a Sacc Trois-like brett character to it but is likely from the hop additions given the beer’s name. While unconfirmed there is likely a combination of Galaxy and Mosaic Hops or something similar. Tasting the beer it is more carbonated than expected and the flavour less intense than the smell predicted. Up front, wheat, banana and mild clove come into the picture while grapefruit, mango and passion fruit tones build into the finish. In the later notes of the flavour a defined bitterness emerges despite the mellow 12 IBUs on the label. This is a well crafted Hefeweizen with a hoppy twist of southern hemisphere tropical fruit flavour.
