The Challenge : We were to fly over the Tasman to each others breweries, where we would deliver the style and hop varieties that our challenger was to brew (not at the same time, of course). Upon receiving the challenge, we then had to devise our recipe and get brewing on the same day. No sneaky prep notes, no hint of what was expected of each other, no pilot brewing allowed.

Our brewers challenged Emerson’s to create an Australian red IPA using Topaz and Ella hops. In return, Little Creatures was challenged by Emerson’s to to brew a traditional, authentic Saison, using East Kent Goldings and Czech Saaz, but in limited amounts in order to stay true to the Saison style. For a bunch of hop heads, this was indeed a challenge.
