Sanctuary Enkel by The Church Brewing Co. in Nova Scotia, Canada

About Sanctuary Enkel by The Church Brewing Co.

History

Enkel which means single in Dutch, or otherwise known as Patersbier (“fathers beer”) was a special light ale brewed by the Trappist monks so they could consume the fruits of their labour without becoming intoxicated. The Enkel was rarely sold outside of the monasteries as they only sold their higher gravity and more alcoholic beers – the dubbel, tripel, and quadruple to make money. We’ve taken inspiration from this to create a house table beer for the Sanctuary.

Tasting Notes

A bright straw coloured beer with a rocky white head. Aromas of lemon, dandelion, and light honey notes. The flavour is delicate with lemongrass, grainy Pilsen malt, and a little spice. This beer has a light acidity and bright effervescence that finishes very dry.

Food Pairings

Manchego cheese, tuna poke, popcorn shrimp, field greens w/ lemon and dill vinaigrette
