About Blue Mountain Pizza and Brew Pub

Blue Mountain Pizza and Brewpub at 55 N. Main St. in Weaverville, which quietly debuted Dec. 1. Now fully permitted and running strong, this two barrel system is cranking out new beers each week and winning over fans in northern Buncombe County and the surrounding areas.
Blue Mountain has long been a popular spot for dining and live music. Matt Danford opened the place nine years ago. He added the brewpub element to “keep it fresh,” he said. “We are always looking for things to bring customers in.”
That historic building at 55. N. Main St. dates to the 1820s and in recent years has been a hardware store, a small TV station, and was occupied by a string of restaurants until Danford opened Blue Mountain.
Brewing the beers are Mike Vanhoose and Joey Cagle. The two have been home brewing for a decade and were eager to take that up a level.
The brewery, locagted in a small side building and not open for tours, has two 80 gallon fermenters. Vanhoose and Cagle are running the equipment strong, with beers divided between American and Belgian styles. When we stopped by last week, Blue Mountain was serving North Main Black IPA and an unnamed Belgian pale ale.
But they are changed quickly. “We’ve got a tripel coming up next,” Vanhoose said. For now, the only to enjoy these beers is to stop by Blue Mountain. Take-home refillable growler bottles are next. If the brewery is a success, Danford wants to eventually move it to another location. “This is a great market (for craft beer),” Danford said. “I think it can only get bigger and better.
