About Carolina Brewing Company
1992: Founders Greg Shuck, John Shuck and Joe Zonin lived in Seattle and home-brewed beer in their basement.
1993: Once they fine-tuned their brew recipe, they toured the Southeast for a new market to open their own brewery. They chose Holly Springs, NC.
July 3, 1995: The first kegs of flagship brand Carolina Pale Ale delivered to 42nd Street Oyster Bar in Raleigh.
Fall 1995: Carolina Nut Brown Ale is introduced.
1995 – 2011: CPA becomes one of the best selling beers in the Triangle.
2006: North Carolina legislature passes a bill to allow breweries to brew beers with higher alcohol content. CBC’s Old 392 Barleywine is named in honor of this bill.
2011: John Shuck decides to leave after 16 years as head brewer.
2011: That same year, Mark Heath and Van Smith–long-time fans of CBC and volunteer brewers and bottlers for many years–join the ranks as partners.
2015: Taproom opens to celebrate 20th Anniversary as Holly Springs’ Hometown Brewery.
2015: CBC rebrands to celebrate this milestone.
2016: CBC plans statewide distribution by end of year.
