About Falls City Beer

Our Story

Our story starts in 1905 in Louisville, KY when local tavern and grocery store owners began their own brewing operations as a way to break a local monopoly on beer production.  With that spirit, Falls City Brewing Co. was born.  Over the next few decades we would grow and become a regional power, brewing a variety of flavorful ales and lagers.

Sadly, towards the middle of the century the “big beer” companies began to flex their muscles. As the taste buds of beer drinking Americans shifted towards light lagers, despite our best efforts to compete, we were forced to close our operation in late 1978.

In 2010, we re-opened with a passion for making great craft beer and a dedication to celebrating the rich brewing history of our hometown.

Today, our small team consists of folks that took different paths to end up at Falls City Beer. But, while our backgrounds may be different, we’re united by common goals and beliefs…mainly, a passion for brewing high quality beer and celebrating life by bringing people together over a pint.  We believe there is a beer for every occasion and a beer for every person, no matter their prior experience with beer.

Our passion and dedication come across in our beers, which are available in local restaurants and bars across Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee.  Our English-Style Pale Ale, Kentucky Common and Hipster Repellant IPA are available on draft and in package year-round, along with seasonal selections.

In addition, our 7bbl brewhouse on 10th street in downtown Louisville is where we can most often be found.  Cooking up some creativity and brewing up some innovative, small batch, draft only brews.

Stop by Over the 9, our neighbor restaurant and makeshift tap house, located right next door on 10th Street .   There you’ll find a full slate of our beers to try on draft, as well as beer to go available in 6-packs and growlers.
