About Haywire Brewing Co.
Haywire Brewing Co. began like most small breweries — with a homebrew kit and a dream!
While living in Memphis, Tennessee in the early 2000’s craft beer was very hard to come by.
Actually, there was only one local brewery in the Greater Memphis area and a few tap houses, so I decided to join a Homebrew Club with a few of my work buddies in hopes of learning how to create a more flavorful craft beer. A couple entertaining, yet epic failures later, along with some great success, I had the opportunity to participate in a few homebrew festivals. After winning a handful of awards I was hooked!
Then life happened…
By fate's chance, my wife accepted a job back in her home state of Washington where breweries were aplenty. While looking to buy a house we lived with my in-laws — this is when I introduced my father in-law, to the joys of crafting beer. He, too, was instantly hooked. We decided to build our own ½ barrel electric automated brewing system and began perfecting recipes for friends and family to enjoy.
After many brew days and some words of encouragement from a few industry-friends I jokingly said, "Maybe this could be a family business". I began to look for a location and then one day while searching for equipment online I ran across a Craigslist ad that read:
"Looking for a distillery or brewery to open in our hay barn."
With a lot of help from my wife, in-laws, other key family members and friends this began the evolution of my dream from just “beer talk” to a rustic, chic brewery that represents a place for community (local sources) and beer lovers to unite!
