New Maritime Beer Company’s three owners, Brent Garrish, Matt Hutt, and Adam Lordon, are proud Miramichiers and lifelong friends, who first met in grade school when they played hockey together on the Atom “B” Bunsmaster Ironmen. While none were destined for the NHL, their friendship and involvement in various aspects of the community continued through their youth and graduation as part of the James M Hill High School Class of 2002.

After high school each left the river banks of the Miramichi to pursue their post-secondary education (and a healthy dose of traveling and adventure) and by 2015 they had each found their way back, a little wiser and with a few good stories to tell.

Preliminary discussions of what would become the New Maritime Beer Company took place, as most good things do, over several craft beers at a Christmas party in 2017 in Adam’s kitchen. When it still seemed like a good idea in the New Year, they got to work building the plan.

The goal was to bring the first full scale craft-brewery to Miramichi, and to create a brand and experience that put a fresh spin on our laid back Maritime lifestyle and world famous Miramichi hospitality. Under that vision the New Maritime Beer Company was born. Our paper boat logo, which is both contemporary and nostalgic, speaks to our vision.

With the concept established, next up was finding a location. As part of Miramichi’s newer generation of local entrepreneurs it was important to the guys to find a location that would not only allow them to brew delicious beer, but to support the ongoing renewal of the city’s downtowns. Ultimately the brewery’s location at 55 Newcastle Blvd, which has been the Bridgeview Motors car dealership decades ago, then an auto glass shop, and which had been closed for years, was the perfect fit.

So after two years of planning and several months of extensive renovations, the New Maritime Taproom opened in January 2020, and the brewery came online in March.
