Plan B…. because sometimes plan A doesn’t always work out. Come and join us on our journey.
It all got serious in June of 2015, I say serious because over the last 8 years I’ve been sharing home brew with friends and family and always pondered “what if”. Like most people who have a hobby they love, the idea of taking it to the next level crosses your mind every now and then. Even if for a brief moment.
So... back to June 2015, my wife and I were just getting settled into our new hometown of St. Catharines from Sherbrooke, Quebec. I was able to get reacquainted with family when Neil Wood in particular took interest in the lovely combination of chemistry and biology that makes beer and long story short, barbeques, sunny weather, and backyard brew days lead to lengthy conversations about the brewing process, equipment, and business models, leaving us knee deep in paperwork, site plans, and pilot batches of beer.
Initially the brewery was going to be called Short Hills Brewing Co. in Pelham, Ontario (AKA. Plan A) but after 6 months of road blocks and the complexities of building a production brewery in a rural area we took a step back, reviewed all the options and decided to pursue Plan B. With the magic shake of a lawyer’s wand we became Plan B Beer Works and locked ourselves into a lease in Downtown St. Catharines. Like many things in life sometimes we need to take a little tumble to find the perfect approach. Then, the rest as they say is history.
